SPOTLIGHT: The Collection of James Paul

From time-to-time, we at like to showcase DC fan’s collections. Whether it is a fan just starting out with a small collection, to some of the largest collections in the world, there is always something you can learn from looking at other’s collections. You might find a new way to display something, or maybe even see something you didn’t know existed!

Today’s focus is on the collection of James Paul. I met James on the Facebook page DC UNIVERSE CLASSICS COLLECTORS. It is a private group, so you will have to ask to join. When I saw his collection, I immediately knew I had to contact him to see if he would mind sharing with our readers. Not only is James a huge DC fan, but he also dabbles in the art world as well. Check out his collection below!

DCCollectors: How did you get into collecting DC toys and what was your first DC toy/collectible?

James Paul: My love of reading DC Comics got me into collecting the action figures and statues. I have grown to admire DC’s story telling and characters.

DCC: How many pieces are in your collection?

JP: I currently have over 300 figures and statues in my collection, and it just keeps growing.

DCC: If you could only choose one item to keep, which one would it be?

JP: Wow that’s a very hard question to answer as each piece holds a lot of sentimental value. If I absolutely had to pick one, I would have to say my Prime 1 Studio Dark Knight Batman statue.

DCC: What is the one item that you really want to add to your collection?

JP: Hmm… there’s a lot on that list, but I’m eagerly awaiting my Prime 1 Studio Doomsday statue that i have on pre-order.

DCC: What piece of advice do you have for those just starting their collections?

JP: I’d probably advise them to have balance and to not stretch yourself too thin. As a collector we sometimes get carried away with the hobby. Know your priorities, but most of all enjoy it. Each of us have different reasons for collecting, but at the end of the day we are here to enjoy the hobby.

DCC: I see that you are an artist as well. What started you down the path of art?

JP: I’m a self proclaimed wannbe artist lol! I come from a 3rd generation of artists, but comics and cartoons had a big part to play and influenced my work a lot.

DCC: Do you have an interesting story regarding the collection, such as meeting someone famous while shopping for your toys, or a super deal you got on something?

JP: I used to every now and then pick up an action figure here and there, but when i finally bought my home, I started a mancave, and after 3 months of working on it I sat in front of my PC and I only had three loose action figures.  For the first time i sat there and got the chance to admire the artistry, and the nostalgic feeling. The rest, as they say, is history. It has become an addiction.
